New Mentorship Fall Season is starting March 8th! Deadline to apply is February 25th.
See additional schedule details in the application links below.
Mission City Swing is more than just a weekly dance venue. The MCS Peer Mentorship Program is designed to help people new to Mission City Swing navigate the dance world and integrate into our local scene and the wider west coast swing community.
For Mentees
We know how nerve-wracking it is to enter a new community, and dancing is no exception. Everyone seems so much better than you, and you feel really intimidated. The MCS Peer Mentorship Program aims to help you navigate the dance world and integrate into both MCS and the wider dance community. If selected, you will be paired with a more experienced mentor for 6 weeks.
To qualify to be a mentee for the Peer Mentorship Program you:
- Will have completed at least one class series at MCS, and are enrolled in a series March 4th – April 11th.
- Have been dancing at MCS for less than a year.
- Have a desire to get more involved in the MCS community, and help make it a warm and welcoming environment for everyone 🙂
- Want to learn more about West Coast Swing – bay area studios, private lessons, tips on how to improve, tips on what shoes to wear, social norms, conventions, competitions, and more.
- Have What’s App installed on your phone.
For Mentors
Remember how it felt to be new? You probably didn’t know a lot of people, everyone seemed so much more talented than you, and you may have been hesitant to ask people to dance. The MCS Peer Mentorship Program is an opportunity for you to help ease a newer dancer through that experience. You’ll make friends and gain new perspectives as you get to know a whole new cohort of MCS community members!
To qualify to be a mentor for the Peer Mentorship Program you:
- Have been dancing West Coast Swing regularly at MCS or another studio for more than a year.
- You feel a sense of community at MCS, and want to help share that with newer dancers.
- You have a good understanding of West Coast Swing culture and are able to help guide a newer dancer in the scene.
- Have What’s App installed on your phone.
